On January 14, 2021, the committee of hygienic safety inspection of the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) project led by Dr. Suwanchai Watthanayingcharoenchai, the director-general of the Department of Health under the Ministry of Public Health, and Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, the Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT.), had inspected Don Mueang Airport’s hygienic measures and tourism service, and gave the SHA certificate to Thai AirAsia airline after the inspection, aiming to encourage SHA certified entrepreneurs to strictly comply with the received standard. The committee group was welcomed by Wg. Cdr. Ronakorn Chaloemsaenyakon, the deputy director of Don Mueang Airport (operation department), at Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok.

                The committee had visited each sector in Don Mueang Airport’s terminal which is the first place to welcome tourists and the beginning of a journey in Thailand to inspect their service. The committee cared for tourists and airport passengers’ safety so they stressed the importance of complying with hygienic measures. Every staff wore a face mask and gloves while working. The tourism service area and other areas were constantly cleaned. The airport stressed that all tourists must go through a temperature screening point, follow hygienic measures, keep a distance, and wear a face mask, in order to stop the spread of COVID-19. After that, the committee had inspected and gave the SHA certificate in the transportation type, number D0462, to Thai AirAsia airline. Captain Damrong PhatphiphatKun, the director of flight operations of AirAsia airline, was in charge of receiving the certificate. There are 2 inspection criteria: 1) committee inspection and 2) voice of the customer (VOC), in order to improve the establishment and encourage them to comply with the SHA standards, and reduce the spread of COVID-19. The Amazing Thailand Safety & Health Administration (SHA) is a project under the cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports by TAT and the Ministry of Public Health by the Department of Disease Control of Thailand, Department of Health, and the Health Service Support Department, including government sectors and private sectors involved in the tourism industry; in order to improve Thailand’s tourism products and service to be a part of disease control measures and reduce the spread of COVID-19 to build confidence in tourists under the sanitation safety management in establishments involved in Thailand tourism industry. The project has been in operation since May 2020 but TAT still promotes the SHA project to this day, in order to build confidence in tourists and restore tourism Thailand to be flourish again with the new normal measures.

                The SHA standards are equivalent to a certificate that represents tourism industry entrepreneurs’ readiness in improving their products and services to comply with the hygienic measures, which is a necessary factor in preventing the spread of COVID-19. The core of the SHA standards is the public health measures that will build confidence in customers and service recipients. Nowadays, there are more than 8,000 SHA certified entrepreneurs all over Thailand.
